The Nautica Rockefeller Center Flagship store is the first freestanding retail store developed by the company Nautica International. Prior to the creation of the Rockefeller Center store Nautica had no specific retail brand identity. The design of this store was a rare opportunity to create a fresh and contemporary retail environment for a company with worldwide market presence. The design of the project was influenced by several factors including the site, the existing advertising brand identity and finally the mission of the company and its founder.
The client desired to bring the existing brand identity, which was refers to a patrician Eastern Seaboard nautical tradition, into the twenty-first century with a modern tone. Collaborating closely with the client, we facilitated the blending of the modern and the traditional by turning to the Rockefeller Center's wonderful architecture for inspiration.
