Joyce Boutiques

Joyce Boutiques

Project Description:

Architecture, interior design and theatre converge in a retail experience expressing the personal vision of international taste-maker Joyce Ma.

Fashion and home ware boutiques plus cafes in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Taipei.

Seduction, a slow dance of pursuer and pursued, describes the concept behind the design of these high fashion boutiques. The stores inspire a complicity of purpose between prospective owner and that which can be owned; shopping becomes an intimate experience addressing both the subliminal and the conscious self.

At first glance the stores may appear to rely upon a variety of decorative motifs as a solution. In reality the design concept cares little about style and much about the subtle manipulations of space, light, procession, and atmosphere. Sensory enticements slow one down, so that nothing is missed or passed by too quickly.
